Can I still go on a traditional Mystery night out?

Sad news...for the time being our traditional Mysteries are being postponed until our restaurant, bar, and activity providers are able to open and operate as needed.

But the good news is we've partnered with local businesses to offer Mystery Night-In!

How is Mystery helping the community?

We partner with some of the best activity providers and restaurant in Seattle & Austin...and we feel their pain during this economic slowdown.

Consequently, we've launched Mystery Night In to help you have fun from the comfort of home while helping some of those local businesses.

Where is Mystery available?

Currently, Mystery operates in Seattle and Austin.

An update for those in Seattle and Austin looking to go out for an evening with us — our traditional Mysteries have paused in the wake of COVID-19 but be sure to check out Mystery Night In to keep the fun happening from the comfort of home!
We don't want to leave the rest of the greater Seattle area hanging. If you're willing to drive to a park and ride, we can get you our on a Mystery as well!

What if I have to cancel?

We get it - things come up! Before cancelling, we recommend considering rescheduling instead. It's free to reschedule up until 48 hours in advance. However, if you do have to cancel, check out our policy below:

  • Less than 24 hours in advance

Can I customize my Mystery?

That depends on what you mean by "customize." We don't take direct requests, but when you create your account, we gather your preferences. We won't ever send you somewhere that you explicitly call out that you dislike. However, we let your "likes" become a starting point, but they don't exactly dictate what you'll do or where you'll go on a Mystery.

We may send you to experiences that are juuuust outside your comfort zone. Trying new things is the magic of Mystery! We offer 3 types of Mysteries to you can choose from meet your comfort level.
  • Classic (3-5 hrs)
  • Single-Stop Meal (1-2 hrs)
  • Single-Stop Activity (1-2 hrs)

How do I schedule a Mystery?

Great question! Gold star. You can schedule a Mystery either through our mobile app or through our website online. Read below to figure out how to schedule through both. There are seven steps to scheduling

1. When should we pencil you in for?
Go ahead and pick a date that works for you and whoever you’re going with as well as time. We ask you to pick a time-slot rather than a specific time at this point in order to give us a little bit of wiggle room on planning your adventure. We’ll let you know with plenty of time prior to your Mystery what your exact start time will be.

2. Where should we have your driver pick you up?
You can pick any address here in the greater Seattle or Austin area. Unsure if your address fits? Take a look at our current operating area. Please make sure that all guests are at this point at the time and day of your Mystery!

3. Who will be joining you?
Let us know who’s coming! We require at least the name of anyone joining you on your Mystery. This is in case we buy any tickets on your behalf. If you add their number we can add them to you Mystery so you can all take part in the fun together. It also helps us prepare everyone for the night’s activities before. Booking this as a surprise? Just turn alerts off for anyone you don't want informed ahead of time.

4. What's your budget (per person)?
Pick a budget for what you’re looking for! Your budget is all-inclusive of meals, rides, at least one experience and the Mystery planning fee.

5. What is your food budget?
This helps us balance out your budget for how much you’d like to spend on your meal.

6. Any special requests or details we should know about when planning your Mystery?
This is the fun section. Are you celebrating anything? Have any special requests? Any insider tips? This is the “tell it all” section.

7. Payment information
We partner with Stripe for payment. We don’t store any of the info here and it’s encrypted beyond belief. Remember to fill out all the fields here.  That’s it! You’re all set—get ready for your Mystery!

How do I change the guest list?

Adding a couple of lucky friends? Awesome.

If it’s at least 48 hours before your Mystery, you can edit the Mystery and add whomever you like. Do that by heading to https://my.mystery.sh/mysteries and click the pen icon at the top right of your Mystery. You can make any changes you like right through there.

We can usually accommodate just about anything with enough notice, but things might get a little tricky when it’s short notice (less than 48 hours). While you won’t be able to edit the Mystery anymore, shoot Casey a text at 425-230-6789 or through the support tab in the app and we’ll see what we can do.

Who can go on a Mystery?

Who can’t go on a Mystery is the real question. While many of our Mysteries are for dates, we also regularly plan all sorts of adventures.

Whether it’s one friend or four, girls night, guys night, team events, or even solo adventuring—rest assured we’ve seen it all (from a onesie party to an engagement).

We find that once you experience Mystery the first time, you’ll want to do more than just tell your friends and family about it.Think you have something we haven’t seen yet? We love that.

What if I’m booking this as a surprise?

Well first off—kudos on being a fun person. If you can’t tell, we love surprises.  

We heard this enough that we finally made it easy for you. All you need to do is turn notifications off anyone that you don’t want to spoil the fun for.  

We ask that you still add everyone’s name and number so they can take part in the festivities during the night out.

How do you know what I like?

Magic. That’s how. No, but really—after signing up online you’ll fill out a profile. Our planners will use that information to hand-pick restaurants, bars, and experiences that we think you’ll love!

We’ll use all the information available to us so we recommend having whoever you’re inviting on your Mystery fill out their profile too.Even more than that, our planners will take note of what neighborhood you’re starting from, who you’re going with, the occasion, and all the demographic information you provide us with.

How do I reschedule?

We’re sorry to hear that—but we get it. We try and be as flexible as possible and will move as many mountains as we can to work with you. However, because we’re booking things on your behalf, short notice reschedules are a little tricky.

If you’re rescheduling more than 48 hours in advance: Head to https://my.mystery.sh/mysteries and click the pen icon at the top right of your Mystery. You can make any changes you like right through there.

If you’re rescheduling between 48 and 24 hours: We may not be able to recoup what we had booked for you, but we’ll only charge you the $20 planning fee.

If you’re rescheduling with less than 24 hours: This one is tough, at this point it will be near impossible for us to get a refund. Mysteries canceled within 24 hours of the Mystery start time will incur a charge of $50 per Mystery participant.

Can’t make it but want to give the Mystery to someone else? We can make that work, but it’s unlikely we’ll be able to customize the Mystery to whoever you give it to. That means they’ll need to get picked up close by where you selected, and ideally fit the night out you requested.

How do you pick where we go?

Super creative people + data science + blockchain. Okay...so we don’t actually use blockchain.

After signing up online and filling out your profile, our planners will hand-pick restaurants, bars, and experiences that we think you’ll love! We’ll use all the information available to us so we recommend having whoever you’re inviting on your Mystery fill out their profile too.

Our planners are expert foodies, artists, event-planning guru’s, and experience lovers. Our planning is all about mixing the edges of creativity with the cutting edge of technology and data science to truly plan the perfect night out. We know you’ll love it.

How much does it cost?

You control the cost! Mystery offers 3 products (Classic, Activity, Dinner) that each have 4 budget ranges. Each tier opens up more options of incredible things we can plan for you. Just select the one that works best for you.

When will I be charged?

Scheduling is always free. We don't charge your card until 2-3 business days after your Mystery.

Just a heads up, you may pay out-of-pocket at certain stops while on your Mystery. But, don't worry, we'll always provide crystal-clear directions when you arrive at your stops.

You’ll receive an itemized receipt through email from support@trymystery.com with the subject line “Mystery Receipt”. If you don’t see it in your inbox please check your spam. Still not seeing it? Shoot us an email, text, or chat through the app.

Are there cancellation fees?

What if we need to know where we’re going?

If you ever need a stop revealed for any reason all you need to do is ask. Above all else—safety and security take precedence. While we don’t condone asking about a stop just because you’re curious, we’ll always let you know where you’re headed if you ask.

What if I need to be home by a specific time?

Any good date planner knows how to get someone home on time. Whether it’s for a babysitter or an early flight we can get you home whenever you like. Just make sure and let us know in the notes when you’re signing up online.

How long is a Mystery?

Long enough to make you feel adventurous!

Mysteries don't fall into any strict timelines but typically they last between 3 and 5 hours. If you're looking for a shorter Mystery, you can try a single-stop dinner or activity. Each Mystery lasts about the following:
  • Classic (3-5 hrs)
  • Single-Stop Meal (1-2 hrs)
  • Single-Stop Activity (1-2 hrs)

What if I need help during the Mystery?

While your night is a Mystery to you, it’s not to us. Most nights go off without a hitch, but we’re standing by during your Mystery just in case anything comes up. What should I expect after I sign up?

Magic, Mystery, and Memories. Ah yes, alliteration...

In all reality—expect to have fun! Mystery is all about letting someone else take the wheel and living in the moment. It’s about experiencing something new, together. From a process standpoint? Here’s happens after you schedule:

You’ll get a confirmation email detailing your selection and confirming the night out.24 hours before your Mystery you’ll get a message from Casey giving you an idea of when you can expect to eat, and confirming when and where you’ll get picked up.

1 hour before we’ll send you a quick heads up and remind you to download the app (if you haven’t done it already). You’ll get a notification about ride coming your way with all the normal information (driver name, car make/model, license plate). You’ll get in that car and have no idea where you’re headed.

You’ll arrive at a stop that was handpicked just for you. Repeat steps 4-6 once or twice more. You’ll get a ride home and eagerly chat about how much fun you just had.

You’ll get a receipt and survey asking about your night out. Your ratings and reviews will help make your next Mystery even better than the one you just went on. You’ll wonder how it could ever be better than the night you just had. You’ll sign up for your next Mystery.

What should I wear?

Probably not Crocs.

We’ll reach out 24 hours prior to your scheduled Mystery with specific attire recommendations! Almost all attire suggestions are just that—suggestions. Ignore them if you like, we’ll let you know if it’s required. While some Mysteries require some out of the box attire needs, most fall into one of the following buckets:

Date Night Casual: Jeans and T-shirt is just fine but feel free to spruce it up. We wouldn’t recommend a tux or a gown, but a button up or some wedges are just fine.

Athleisure: I get the feeling I know how you filled out your profile… get ready to move! It’s time for that headband in the back of your sock drawer to shine.

Date Night Nice: Alright—we’re hitting the town. Dress for success and get ready to be classy and sassy.

Date Night Formal: Yep—you’re wearing a suit or dress. I know what you’re thinking—finally, I get to wear this for more than just weddings. Have a specific attire in mind when you’re signing up? Just let us know in the notes.
