About Mystery:

Today, if someone wants to find something to do, they spend several hours searching through Facebook, Eventbrite, Yelp, Groupon, local newspapers, or Googling to find an experience that suits them. After fruitless searching, they inevitably end up at the same restaurant, bar, or movie theatre they were last week.

Mystery is a managed marketplace that connects people to experiences in a new way. Mystery uses human-in-the-loop matching to create a curated outing based on a customer’s preferences and price point. Aside from the necessary basic information, Mystery provides limited details on the itinerary - all in an effort to surprise and delight their customers. Throughout the Mystery customers are guided by Casey, their technology powered concierge. By owning the end to end experience, Mystery removes all planning, indecision, and the fear of failure associated with planning an experience.

With the onset of COVID-19, Mystery expanded its product offering to include Mystery Night In, an at-home date night option. Each Night In offers a variety of surprise goods and activities along with dinner from local restaurants. Mystery Night In supports over 20 small businesses and provides a novel and exciting date-night or special occasion experience.

About You:

You’re looking to join an early stage startup where you’ll work with a close knit team of smart people to shape and scale a product that customers love! Although you can expect to do a lot of different things at Mystery, as an Operations Specialist you’ll be instrumental in planning, organizing, and coordinating all functions related to our core business. 

Your Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that people signing up for Mystery have an amazing experience!
  • Be the human-in-the-loop responsible for designing customer Mysteries.
  • Monitor automated Mysteries and resolve on-the-fly issues. 
  • Help develop and maintain Mystery’s partner relationships.
  • Operate cross functionally to execute on special projects/events.
  • Analyze data and develop insights that improve the customer experience.
  • Develop scalable operating procedures to facilitate Mystery’s rapid growth.  
  • Partner with Product to develop and optimize internal operational tools.
  • Assist with the training and onboarding of new hires. 
  • Keep up to date with new restaurants and experience offerings in your city. 
  • Any number of disparate tasks to support the needs of the business and our customers!

Required Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated ability of excelling in fast paced operations environments.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills (advanced spreadsheet skills required).
  • Ability to create structure in ambiguous situations and design effective processes.
  • High self-initiative with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts as required.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Event management experience.
  • Customer service experience. 
  • Technology industry and startup experience. 
  • SQL experience (subqueries, window functions, joins etc.)
